Our
mission is to build and organize collection of beads, beadworks, textiles,
sculptures and other cultural relics which exemplify the range of material
of the African people. With this focus, the museum is committed to presenting
exhibitions, publications, public programming and serve as a resource
center.
MBAD African
Bead Museum was incorporated in Michigan in 1994 by Sonja Lockhart,
Chris Woodard, Frank Coston, Efe Bess and Larry Mitchell as the culmination
of one African known as Olayami Dabls--esteemed artist, museum curator,
collector and dealer of African culture. Relics.
The American Black Artist (ABA) and MBAD African Bead Museum Merged
on November 15 1999. ABA was founded by Dr. Leno Art Jaxon in 1971 in
Detroit Michigan.
